Notes:
1798 - The Mississippi Territory was established by the USA, which included the southern portions of present day Mississippi and Alabama.

1804 - The Mississippi Territory was trippled by expansion northward to the southern Tennessee border.

1812 - The Mississippi Territory annexed land to the Gulf Coast.

1817 - On 3 March, the Alabama Territory was established from the eastern half of the Mississippi Territory.

1818 - Limestone County was formed from portions of Madison County and an unorganized area.

1819 - On 14 December, Alabama became the 22nd state in the United States of America.

1821 - Limestone County received land from Lauderdale County, creating Limestone County's present day boundries.
