1799 - The town of Kingston was established in Knox County, and became the county seat of Roane County when it was formed from Knox County in 1801.

1801 - Roane County was formed from a portion of Knox County, Tennessee, USA.

1803 - Roane County received land from the Indian Lands.

1807 - Bledsoe County and Rhea County were both formed from a portion of Roane County.

1817 - Morgan County formed from a portion of Roane County.

1819 - Monroe County formed from a portion of Roane County.

1855 - Cumberland County formed from portions of Roane County, Bledsoe County, Morgan County and White County.

1870 - Loudon County formed from portions of Roane County, Blount County, McMinn County and Monroe County.

1880-1890 - Meigs County received land from Roane County, creating Roane County's present day boundries.
