1829 - Giles County received land from Monroe County.

1837 - Mercer County formed from portions of Giles County and Tazewell County.

1841 - Giles County received land from Mercer County.

1851 - Craig County formed from portions of Giles County, Botetourt County, Roanoke County and Monroe County.

1861 - Bland County formed from portions of Giles County, Tazewell County and Wythe County, creating Giles County's present day boundries.

1863 - West Virginia formed from 50 counties in Virginia, including some land that was previously in Giles County.
